Mo Mo by Attacky - Book
Mo Mo by Attacky - Book

skill level

 Ref: C247
Attacky's "Mo Mo" Book includes the following tricks:

DEEP BLUE

EFFECT: The magician takes out a blue-backed card and put it face down on the table as a prediction card. The magician asks a spectator to freely name a card. Let's assume that 8 of Hearts is chosen. Then, the magician takes out a deck so that the card will not be forgotten and that it will not be told differently later. It is a red-backed deck, from which the magician takes out 8 of Hearts. The magician ask the spectator to hold the blue-backed prediction card with the right hand and the red-backed 9 of Hearts that was pulled out from the red-backed deck with the left hand. At this timing, the magician confirms what was done so far.

"I had taken out this blue-backed card before you named a card. After that, you chose the 8 of Hearts. Is it right?"

When the spectator opens the prediction card, it is 8H!

The Back of the Back

EFFECT: The magician borrows a coin from a spectator and asks him/her to sign on this coin. Then, the magician teaks out a case with cards inside and show the inside to the spectator by opening the flap. The inside is filled with cards approximately to the half without anything on the top of the cards.

The magician closes the flap to confine the cards. The coin is vanished. When the flap of the case is opened, the coin is seen on the top of the cards in the case. When the coin is taken out, it is found to be the signed coin. Even if the inside of the case is shown again, obviously there is no coin anymore.

36.5C

EFFECT: The magician says, "Since the cards are delicate, you have to handle them carefully and quickly. They may be affected by a slight change of environment or even by temperature. It is like a sushi of fresh tuna is damaged when a person who has warm handle spends long time to make one. It is not widely-known but the cards are most affected at the temperature of 36.5C, and indeed my normal temperature is 36.5C (97.7 F). Therefore, I have to do the magic quickly" Then, the magician takes out a blue-backed, cuts it into half, turns the bottom half face up and shuffles it with the top half face down.

The magician shows the mixed cards, face up and face down, to the spectator slightly awkwardly. However, when the magician snaps his/her fingers then all the cards show face-up in a moment.

The magician says, "I managed to turn them face up but it seems to have taken longer because the cards were affected." When the deck is turned face down, all the cards are now red-backed.

The magician says, "The temperature of my hands affected the cards. In my case, what was affected was not the material of sushi but the trick of magic."

All the faces and back may be completely spread, and another routine may be done afterwards since the deck is a regular one.

Mental Cards

EFFECT: The magician takes out a bundle of word cards that he/she uses to acquire a wide variety of knowledge. Many questions and answers are written on the cards. The magician takes out one card from the bundle, write something on it and put it in front of a spectator. The magician gives the bundle of cards to the spectator, has him/her divide the bundle wherever he/she likes and asks him/her to secretly memorize what is written there on the two pages of cards where the bundle was opened. The magician asks the spectator to mention what is associable with those written on the card in front of him/her. The performance may be repeated and the bundle may be examined.

A Triangular Competition

EFFECT: The magician takes out a deck of cards and shows that all the cards are well-mixed. On the back of each card, one of the five symbols - circle, triangle, square, star or cross - is drawn randomly. The magician also takes out five pens with different five colors and a small envelope. Only one card is in the envelope, and a half of the card is shown out of the envelope. The magician puts a rubber band around the deck, ask a spectator to divide it whichever he/she likes, and ask him/her in remember the number and the suit of the card where the deck was divided and the mark drawn on the back of the card which is facing to the selected card. The magician turns away and says to the spectator, "Please pick up one of the five pens, remove its cap, imagine the card you saw just now and draw the mark you saw in the air with the pen you picked up." When it is finished, the magician asks the spectator to mix the five pens so that the magician cannot find which was used.

The magician turns around and takes out a card from a deck but it is not a selected card. The magician says, "I know this is not your card. My prediction has been here from the beginning," and points out the card in the envelope. The magician takes out the card from the envelope and puts it face-down on the top of the deck. Then, the magician asks the spectator's card, the mark and the color of the pen that was used. When the magician turns the top card face up, it is the card the spectator remembered, and the mark which the spectator saw is drawn on the card with the color of the pen which the spectator picked up.

And Many, Many, More Exciting Tricks brought to you by Attacky.

Effect

Banachek`s Psychokinetic Time Trick Do you remember the stunning magic effect that Master Magic Man David Blaine used to open his "Street Magic" TV special?

In effect, he borrowed a watch from a man sitting in his car and checked the correct time. He placed the watch back in the man's hands and then asked him to think of a number to move the time. The man said "24" and after a few seconds of mental hocus-pocus, the man opened his hands and saw the watch indeed MOVE AHEAD 24 MINUTES! The reaction was incredible!

Now, you can learn the original method and forcing techniques used for this amazing effect in Banacheck's 26- page manuscript Psychokinetic Time. After being long out of print, Banachek has re-released this monumental effect. Psychokinetic Time comes complete with nine clear photos and descriptive text that details the ultimate impromptu method for altering the time on a spectator's watch while held in their own hand!

Other effects and concepts with watches are also discussed using the secret principles. No "gadgets" or difficult handling.

This is for the serious magician, mentalist or conjuring enthusiast - but can be mastered by anyone!

Psychological Subtleties 2
by Banachek

Psychological Subtleties remains one of the best selling books in the magic and mentalism community and is considered a basic reference source for any complete library on our art. Psychological Subtleties offers ideas, tips and observations of natural human responses that can be inserted into performing situations to make the overall result of an effect much stronger, entertaining and memorable. Several performers incorporated that knowledge into their acts and built whole routines around those clever ideas. Psychological Subtleties 2 picks up where the first book ends. Whereas Psychological Subtleties was not a book of tricks and routines, this book contains complete routines from professionals who understood the value and impact of those ideas in the first book.

Here you will find routines from: Peter Arcane, Greg Arce, Lance Campbell, Dr. Bill Cushman, Christian David, David De Leon, Paul W. Draper, Gerard, Jonathon Grant, Patrick Kuffs, Andy Leviss, Rick Maue, Mike Merchant, Ravi Johannes Pazhur, Ian Rowland, Leonardo Silverio, and Michael Sibbernsen as well as routines and more subtleties from the mind of Banachek.

Professor's Nightmare The Awakening
by Ron Dayton

The Professor's Nightmare- Everyone knows it and does it, and audiences STILL love it. One of the biggest challenges is finding a presentation that is both unique and interesting, particularly when you know of other performer's in your market using the same old patter.

Enter Ron Dayton and "Professor's Nightmare- The Awakening" Written By Ron Dayton, aka KOTAH with a Foreword by Ed Solomon. This 6 X 9 soft cover book is 48 pages, and 20 new routines for the tried and tested Professor's Nightmare. You won't find special slick moves, or any methodology in this book. You WILL find 20 new routines for the professor's nightmare everything from Gospel to Bizarre, Comedic to serious. Ron has variations using chains, Dr Frankenstein flowers, Dog leashes, Tape measures and more!

Ron Dayton is one of the treasures of magic. He has authored countless books and invented tens of dozens of tricks- many of which you may do today without knowing their origin.

Ron's interests are varied and wide, and he is a talented writer. He is also a deep thinker and deep person. Deep persons and deep thinkers are often moody and sentimental- Ron is no exception. You will see the moodiness within these stories not in anger or sadness but in variety of styles themes and tones. In this I was most impressed as I read these presentations.

Within the 20 routines contained herein, the brief directions or notes are given parenthetically, while all the rest of the text represents spoken words. Much of Ron's writing must be read aloud and approached as prose to get a feel for how it is to be delivered, where the pauses go, and how to tell the story for maximum impact.

Some of these routines will fit your tastes as is, others will be springboards for your creativity. One thing is certain, you will never look at the Professor's Nightmare the same way again!

To Lure With Spectacle by Jimmy Talksalot - Book
To Lure With Spectacle by Jimmy Talksalot - Book

A Street Magician's Manual

So, ya wanna be a busker??? This is THE handbook for those ready to build a tip and pass the hat! Advice for working the street, and for working LIFE!

If you consider yourself a magician, then you're an artist and you belong to a tradition (Whether you like it of not.) with expectations from your peers and the laity. This form of art can only function gracefully if the operator works with perfection in his mind, otherwise it appears clumsy and transparent to the spectator.

Those words are directly from the pen of JimmyTalksalot- street performer and world traveller. Jimmy has busked the world over and learned through hard knocks and great teachers. Jimmy is a tremendously talented performer (You have to be to make a living on the streets- and eh DOES make a good living.) and more importantly SHARING! What does he share? In this book, Jimmy shares his bread and butter- not the routines he does, but the wisdom and information he has collected over YEARS of street performing in New Orleans, Europe, California, and around the globe.

Jimmy is a plain talking, straight shooter and he will tell you like it is. You will hear about the glamour and the NOT-SO GLAMOUROUS side of making a living passing the hat.

There are rules to street performing- it's like a special world and one where not knowing the rules will cost you MORE than money. Jimmy talks about those rules of the street. He also shares where to find the good pitches, how to draw a crowd, how to KEEP the crowd. He will tell you about various cultures and how they differ from American busking. He shares some of his magic Hat Lines to help you get fat hats. Jimmy also stresses ART, and the culture and tradition behind not only street performing but magic in general. He has a love of this art, and has strong ideas and opinions about where it needs to go and what needs to happen for it to survive. All this and more he shares with YOU! Rather than read this ad copy, I suggest you go near the bottom of this ad, and just look at the free preview.... I'll bet in those 20 pages you'll understand BETTER than anything I could tell you about this book.

It is a 6 X 9 170 plus page soft cover book, small enough to take with you on the street and read in between pitches. It is a manual intended first for careful study, and then for repeat review as your experience begins to catch up with some of the ideas and concepts you will read about. This $35 book will probably pay for itself the first time you step onto the street, but even before then, you will probably find yourself taking some of this advice and applying it to LIFE in general, and your MAGIC as a whole!

Peppered with snap shots and art based on Jimmys Busking adventure, there is little fluff left over in this booklet. I think you will find it a bargain and one of those books you read over and over and each time discover some new wisdom you had forgotten!

My Story by Uri Geller - Book
My Story by Uri Geller - Book

skill level

 Ref: C162
This is the autobiography of, and the first book by, the famous and controversial Israeli psychic known throughout the world as the man who - apparently by force of will - bends keys and spoons, who mends broken radios and stopped watches, and who has demonstrated in controlled experiments at the University of London, at the Stanford Research Institute, and elsewhere, staggering extra-sensory powers. It is Uri's own story, in his own words, of his incredible powers. 'It amazes me,' he says, 'every time these things happen. I want to jump up and point them out to people.' And it also tells of Uri's ambivalence about what he can do and about the enigma it poses. 'I ask myself why does it have to be watches, keys, metals? Why do they throw me symbols?'

Here, too, is the story of how Uri came to raise his powers and of how they affected him. His was a normal childhood (with loving though divorced parents, dogs, a dislike of school, typically adolescent adventures), except that strange and embarrassing things seemed to happen when Uri was around. He describes an event in a 'magical mystery garden' when he was three or four. He recalls his first telepathic and clairvoyant experiences: reading his mother's mind, on several occasions sensing potential disasters, shocking his school-teachers when he took tests and wrote compositions ('Many times mine was exactly the same as the guy's sitting five chairs behind me'). He reveals a fantastic incident that occurred while he was training in the Israeli Army and tells of his uncanny foreknowledge about combat in the Six-Day War (he knew he would be wounded). And he describes his first public appearance, an event that started a new life for him, propelling him into international celebrity. Since then he has baffled audiences and scientists everywhere.

URI GELLER: MY STORY goes beyond anything written elsewhere about this extraordinary man. It tells of Uri's experiments with distinguished scientists - tests that verify beyond doubt the existence of his powers. It describes the series of broadcasts in Europe-when psychic energies were transferred from Uri to viewers in their own homes. It reports the strange and apparently interrelated phenomena that began in Israel: voices speaking from tape recorders, objects levitating or disappearing and reappearing, encounters with flying saucers. And it ends with the strangest event of all - one never before revealed - at once the, epitome and the culmination of all that has gone before.

Uri Geller's autobiography is a story that staggers the mind.

PROFESSOR J. G. TAYLOR:
I have tested Uri Geller in my laboratory at King's College, London University, with specially designed apparatus. The Geller Effect-of metal bending-is clearly not brought about by fraud. It is so exceptional that it presents a crucial challenge to modern science, and could even destroy the latter if no explanation becomes available.

DR. HAROLD E. PUTHOFF and RUSSELL TARG Stanford Research Institute:
We have observed certain phenomena with the subjects [including Uri Geller] for which we have no scientific explanation.

DR. DAVID BOHM and DR. JOHN HASTED Birkbeck College, University of London:
We feel if similar tests are made later, enough instances of this kind will probably accumulate, so that there will be no room for reasonable doubt that some new process is involved here, which cannot be accounted for or explained in terms of the present known laws of physics. Indeed, we already feel that we have gone some distance toward this point.

"Is he a fraud or a phenomenon as he bends metal by what he contends is the power of his mind alone and performs telepathic feats with a considerable degree of accuracy? The fact that even respected scientists who have tested the 28-year-old Israeli under controlled conditions, supposedly cheat-proof laboratory conditions, are asking that question opens up a whole new bag of possibilities for an adventurous mind." -Chicago Daily News

"The scientific community has been put on notice 'that there is something worthy of their attention and scrutiny' in the possibilities of extra-sensory perception. With those words the respected British journal 'Nature' called on scientists to join - or refute - millions of non-scientists who believe human consciousness has more capabilities for real perception than the five senses." -New York Times editorial

"Under doubly strict laboratory conditions, Targ and Puthoff said 'No magician has been able to duplicate through trickery the psychic feats performed by Uri Geller and others. Some won't even try.' " -Los Angeles Times

"One hundred years ago we'd have burned Uri Geller at the stake. Now we put him on the Johnny Carson Show. We've come a long way." -James Fadiman, Stanford University

About Uri Geller

Born: 20 December 1946
Birthplace: Israel
Best Known As: Paranormal celebrity famous for bending spoons Since the late 1960s, Geller has been known for his claims that he can bend spoons or fix broken watches using the power of his mind. Geller's own web site lists many other "scientifically unexplained" powers which he says he possesses, including telepathy, dowsing, and causing seeds to sprout with the power of his mind. While he has many doubters, Geller has turned his claims into a successful career as a spooky and entertaining media figure.

Geller's first name is pronounced "oori" rather than "yuri"... Geller has a long-running public feud with James Randi, a magician who specializes in debunking the paranormal... Michael Jackson was the best man at Geller's 2001 wedding... A former paratrooper in the Israeli army, Geller fought in the Six Day War of 1967... Like Chuck Barris, Geller says he once was in the secret employ of the CIA.

Dominatricks is a magic book that drips with style. It's hard-backed, innovation-stacked and action-packed with 150 pages of material Tyler Wilson counts on night after night to transform deafening laughter into stunned silence. You can build a professional close-up / walk-around act on these routines. Tyler Wilson did. Nothing is left out: you get the full handlings, presentations, jokes and tips reaped from thousands of real world performances.

Here is a scant sampling of material that will soon jump from the pages of Dominatricks, into your repertoire:

Scarred Warp: many have said that this is the only genuine improvement to Roy Walton's Card Warp to date. See what happens when Tyler Wilson asks the intriguing question, "What's happening inside the card tunnel while the folded card is passing through it?" His answer will shock you.

B52 Shooter: your audience will never look at you the same way again. This is hands down the most visual Triumph routine ever created. Within minutes of learning, face up cards will start rapidly shooting out of the mishmashed deck in a flurry of motion ... with one hand.

Coke Inhabit: Coin In Bottle has never been so sweet. The bottle is given away with the coin still sealed inside as a keepsake. Note: There's a big twist to this routine that we're keeping a surprise until you read the book, or get fooled badly seeing it done live by someone who did. It's your choice.

Stick it to the Man: you love the strong mentalism but don't have the receding hairline required to pull it off? Don't fret, with Dominatricks Tyler Wilson tips a fresh new plot guaranteed to elicit just as many gasps as laughs.

Sloppy 30 Seconds: David Acer calls this "Tyler Wilson's brain-busting card transposition" and you'll soon see why. A card in your hand transposes with a card that is placed face up on the floor. Real original thinking!

Foundations : The Art of Staging Magic
by Eberhard Riese

Although the art of magic does not only consist of tricks and technique, roughly 99% of all magic books mainly deal with these topics. "New" tricks, techniques and moves, those seen by the lay audience, upstage all the other, behind the scenes, backstage elements, which are equally if not more important to a successful presentation.

And those important foundations are exactly what the current new publication of the German Sic! Publishing company sets forth.

Eberhard Riese, director of many successful magic acts, recipient of the 2006 Creative Fellowship of The Academy of Magical Arts and for many years editor of the German magic magazine "MAGIE", puts his cards on the table: expounding his experience and his knowledge of all the "other" aspects of the creation and development of a magic act.

Beginning with the finding of an idea, he describes everything which is important: the designing of a stage figure, the equipment, the props and effects, the selection of music (or patter), the focus and plot of a presentation and much more.

Numerous hints and tips which are really helpful to any artist aspiring to perform at their best!

Many examples are given from Riese's work in Stuttgart, so that one obtains a view into the working techniques used in the creation of many successful magic acts, among others those from Roxanne, Peggy Fox, Topas, Franklin, ChaPeau, Nils Bennett, Wave, Simon Pierro, Andy Haeussler, Dr. Marrax and other successful European magicians and Allied Arts performers, whose presentations were developed or improved with the techniques described in this book.

The book is a basic work in which no tricks are explained, but however, it contains everything you have to know for the magic and performing arts.

FOUNDATIONS is a book about the development and composition of a magic act.

180 pages, hard bound, with a foreword by Jim Steinmeyer, numerous photos completely in color.

Excerpt from the Book:

"Why This Book?"

"This book is most of all addressed to magicians who have already gained some practical experience as illusionists and wish to tackle a new act. It is intended to show them a possible route to an original, unusual magic routine. Only one route, mark you, and not the only one. Namely the route we have been following for years quite successfully in Stuttgart. I would like to pass others still so they can follow the same path - or any other!

These are the goals supported by this book."

Excerpt from Jim Steinmeyer's foreword:

"Something strange has been happening to Stuttgart. I first became aware of it years ago, when it became obvious to me, from many thousands of miles away, that this German city was turning out magicians - great magicians, creative magicians, innovative magicians - at a surprising rate. Perhaps it was something in the water? magicians from all around Germany were attracted there, made their pilgrimage and, like Lourdes, something miraculous was happening.

It wasn't until I had a chance to talk to Topas and Nils Bennett that I fully understood.

It wasn't "something", it was "someone", Eberhard Riese. here was the catalyst, the inspiration and teacher to great magicians. When I finally met "Ebs", the founder of the Stuttgart group, it was hard to believe that this quiet, modest man was really capable of such alchemy. And then I heard him talk about magic. (...) I believe that Eberhard Riese's careful work in magic is beckoning to us. Through this text, this wizard of Stuttgart will have the pleasure of reaching many more serious students. They will see him, and have an opportunity to make the most of their own efforts: creative, determined, and innovative."

Cherry Cola Queen
by Liam Montier

Now on booklet!

From UK's talented performer Liam Montier, comes Cherry Cola Queen.

An exclusive collection of magic with the most unusual items.

17 effects in total, ranging from card material to magic with party poppers and even bathroom taps! Truly, something for everyone.

And the cool thing? All of these effects are unpublished. There is NO overlap with the forthcoming DVD set, or in fact, any overlap with anything published before.

If you are looking for unusual magic and fresh ideas, from one of the most promissing magicians in Europe, look no further, Cherry Cola Queen is for you.

A delightfull book containing seventeen incredible routines:

Predict something incredibly personal to your spectator - the location of their tattoo. Then go one step further, and divine the design!
Cause an angel to visually melt from one half of a playing card to another in this shockingly visual application of Paul Harris's Twilight Angels.
Imagine causing the Hot and Cold water to transpose between your bathroom taps!
A spectator is offered a free choice from your stack of business cards, and signs the blank side. On turning it over, he finds it is the same business card that you signed earlier in this strange display of coincidence.
Use a party popper to launch ribbons everywhere, and then demonstrate how to "reload" them.
A strange piece of "Chinese Sticks" inspired weirdness. A cigarette is held in one fist, and the smoke from it rises from your other one!
Show the psychic powers of two little stickmen dudes that you drew onto the back of your business cards.
Demonstrate an old piece of folklore about seeing the reflection of a murderer in victims' eyes, in a fun way.
Predict all the chairs spectators sit in BEFORE they sit in them in this real time chair prediction.
Transpose a silk with the ribbons from a sealed party popper, and reveal the effect with a bang.
A spectator reveals the contents and sender of a piece of your own, personal post. Lucky they don't use their powers for evil...
Perform a card man routine where a selected card is shuffled between two jokers in the fairest possible manner.
Have a spectator choose a CD and then reveal it bit by bit, starting with the artist, type of music and finally album name. Or use DVD's and reveal the actors and film.
Two selected cards are revealed one at a time - one on the magicians' forehead, and the second one from the deck. Only the second one is the first one...which means the second one is on the magician's head. Crazy, but true.
Beat a spectator at a game of psychic snooker.
You show how easy it is to find a spectators card, because it has a different colour back to the others. The spectator finds out that trick isn't as easy as they first thought.

Praise for Bill Abbott's Cabaret Card Magic...

"As a professional magician for over 12 years, I am very picky when it comes to material selection for my act. Having read this booklet, I will be putting two of the routines directly into my show and I'm anxious to try out the third. Bill is a true artist. Whether it's an effect, a method or a presentation, Bill remains unsatisfied until he has created something truly unique. The routines in this booklet are a breath of fresh air for the stand-up performer. The effects are easy to do, the presentations are simple to carry out and their impact on a lay audience is HUGE! To top it all off, each routine is fully scripted, complete with all the lines, comedy, bits of business and psychology that makes each blockbuster routine play so well."
- Richard Sanders - from the Foreword

"Bill Abbott's Cabaret Card Magic is an extremely cogent work and is of tremendous value to every magician out there, but particularly to magicians who want to increase the effectiveness of any material they choose to do for real people. Bill's ideas with the do-it-yourself Ultra-Mental deck is wonderful and I love the Princess and the Pea, a very commercial routine that packs small, plays big. However the real gold is found in the information on pages 7 through 9. To any working magician this information is worth the price of the book."
- Marc Desouza - Author and Performer

"The idea of entertaining a large group (as in 50 plus people) with only a deck of cards is at once thrilling and scary. It would be convenient...but what sort of material would you use? Bill Abbott's Cabaret Card Magic has answered our questions with a collection of card material designed for large groups, and I enjoyed it immensely."
- Joshua Jay - Magic Magazine

"Reading Bill Abbott's Cabaret Card Magic was a real breath of fresh air when it comes to literature about "card magic". It became increasingly clear that Bill thinks long and hard about staging, presentation and creating professional pieces that are memorable. Although I have my own signature presentations of classics like the Invisible Deck and the Tossed Out Deck that I use professionally, Bill's original take on each of these is incredibly inspiring and are truly worthy of serious study. Professional secrets worth ten times the asking price!"

Shalosh - Stage Work by Nimrod Harel - Book
Shalosh - Stage Work by Nimrod Harel - Book

skill level

 Ref: B962
Nimrod Harel is one of the busiest mentalists in the world. He has his own television show ('Inconceivable') which has just completed its fourth season, and he performs daily before company audiences with his original mentalist show.

After his first booklet "SHALOSH" SOLD OUT!!! Now comes his second book: SHALOSH - STAGE WORK .

Limited Edition - ONLY 444 copies printed - so hurry up before there are no more. Each book is numbered!

'Fire at Will' - A clean as a whistle Russian Roulette act using a staple gun. The audience sees one gun loaded and fired and then mixed with three other guns. Then the game begins as the volunteer chooses freely which of the guns will be fired, until the last gun is proven to be the loaded gun. There are no notes, no pre-show or other lowly mental magic diversions- only the guns and free choice. No Russian roulette act with staple guns being performed today even comes close to the simplicity and perfection of this routine.

BIBLE - Anyone who performs 'Add a Number' with a calculator must see what Harel does with this classic. How can you allow the audience to do the last calculation in their heads? How can you set the entire crowd in motion? And most importantly, how can you incorporate company values into your show? This is a must for anyone working with company clients or interested in subliminal message routine themes.

Clean Game - The end of all Bank Night routines. The volunteer hides a cheque or bill inside one of five numbered envelopes. At no point does the mentalist get near the envelopes or make eye contact with them, either before or after the cheque is put in, and yet he knows which envelope is the one with the money. There are no gimmicks of any kind. Clean, clean, clean. You will laugh out loud reading about this method. A television stage performance is attached.

Bonus: For the first time, Harel reveals the secret behind his Nail Gun Routine, which was performed by Eran Raven in 'Phenomenon' and gives general permission to anyone wishing to use it in their stage or television performances. This routine is utterly devoid of gimmicks and can be executed with almost all nail guns with no preparation at all. Another example of ingenuity.

The presentation of these effects is adapted to large audiences (50-1000 people), they are incredibly practical (less than 60 second preparation time), is untainted with any mental magic and all fits inside a suitcase. This is a rare opportunity to get acquainted with one of the most successful and creative mentalists alive today. A must for any professional mentalist.

666 Mentalism by Howard Adams - Book
666 Mentalism by Howard Adams - Book

skill level

 Ref: B958
Howard Adams has been around for a LONG time, and his specialty is self working and mathematical magic and mentalism effects. I have no idea how his mind can generate these kinds of effect with this much variety, but create he does.

Howard's books and booklets have been released in series (Such as OICUFESP and MINDESPA) and in books by a variety of publishers. The commercial effect "Will the card match" is based on one of Howard's principles. Look at any list of creators of easy to do, self-working card effects and Howard's name will be high on the list. Howard's contributions can be seen in Simply Impromp2 by Aldo Colombini and Howard's book Mathcasts Aspellonu is often quoted as a resource for this kind of material.

In this book, Howard has created 66 self working packet effects using 6 cards each. (thus the title, get it, 666 Mentalism?) Each effect is explained in Howard's straight forward, no-nonsense and to the point fashion and we have left them as he wrote them word for word. You can read a sample here.

I think often, people ignorantly poo poo self working magic because they don't understand it. It is true that you will find NO sleight of hand, no finger flinging and no hard to do gaffs in this book. Instead you get 66 (Plus a few extra bonuses) simple effects and plot outlines that can be done 100% in the spectator's hands! Many of these do not require the performer to touch the cards at all. Some could be done over the phone or through the MAIL. I know of several performers who have used this kind of magic over the phone with radio DJ's heard by thousands and thousands of listeners! To the listening audience, you could read minds or predict an outcome that you have NO WAY OF INFLUENCING.

The material in this book is great stuff for brainstorming and workshops. Sure you can do it As-Is, and with a little thought and personalization, you can take a solid effect and turn it into a publicity making miracle!

We select books for a variety of reasons. 1- We like them. 2- The author's are people we know of and respect. 3- The ideas are just darned clever. 4- There is a niche or group out there we know will enjoy the information.

All of these reasons apply to this book, but there is another. Howard and Dolores Adams are really wonderful PEOPLE! Though I was vaguely familiar with Howard and some of his writings when he first contacted me, I have grown to look forward to our correspondences and occasional chats by phone. Howard and Dolores Adams are genuinely wonderful nice people, and work together as a team very well. Dolores transcribes most of Howard's hand written notes, and helps to edit and proof read them.

As you will find, Howard's writing style is VERY brief and to the point. It is clear, but he does not waste words or ink. His descriptions are clean cut and straight forward, and I really suggest you read his introduction before going forward as I think it sets the stage for how he thinks and writes very well. Howard is also a perfectionist! He is and was adamant that we not touch any of his words. Dolores' proof reading was so thorough, that we didn't have much we could add or change anyway!

So, what you have here are 66 (Plus a couple bonuses) self-working mentalism effects using packets of 6 cards each. You can look forward to 888 mentalism- (88 effects with 8 cards each) down the road as well. Howard has left the presentations sketchy, because he intends this to be a spring board for your own creativity and ideas.

Obviously, one would never do an entire act of such routine...but the simplicity of them, and the way in which they work on their own, means that wherever you do decide to do these effects, you can devote your attention to presentation and theatre!

Effect

Now available in booklet!

Utopian Prediction:

A week before the show, the magician posts a sealed envelope to a member of the audience with explicit instructions that it not be opened before the night of the show, and requests that they should be sure to bring it along with them. On the night, the spectators are seated and the performer states how, "...weeks in advance, I mailed an envelope to a member of the audience here and asked that she bring it with her tonight". She is called up on stage carrying the envelope where she confirms that no one but here has touched it or had access to it, and that it has been sealed the entire time. She is then directed to open up the envelope and take out what is inside.

Magician: "Inside there is a folded up piece of paper, please remove it and read what it says."

The spectator does so and reads aloud:

'On Wednesday 15th of July, on page 9 of The Daily Mail, the third word along on the second line will read : DEMAND'

Another member of the audience retrieves a copy of The Daily Mail, the date confirmed, and turned to page 9 where – sure enough – the 3rd word of the second line is 'demand'.

Note: The above effect uses no gimmicks, no stooges and no switches. The magician never once touches the envelope or the newspaper during the performance. Any newspaper can be used, with any part of it being predicted.

Shy:

The magician presents the spectator with a set of five ESP cards, displaying a circle, a star, a pair of vertical wavy lines, a square and a cross. He explains that ESP stands for Extra Sensory Perception, and that in the early 1950's it was widely believed that these cards could be used to determine ones psychic ability. The magician goes on to describe a popular experiment called the Rhine Test where a participant would be given a card face down and would then proceed to match it up with a set of their own cards, without ever looking at the original. The results were astonishing, with selected partakers getting correct results 80%-90% of the time.

The spectator is then asked to choose three of the five cards and push them forward, face up, on the table. The magician picks up a blank card and, without saying anything, writes something on one side an holds it face down in his hand. The spectator is then instructed to think of two of the chosen images and put his or her index and middle fingers on the selected cards. The magician smiles to himself as he turns his card over revealing that he has drawn the exact same symbols as the spectator selected.

The magician then picks up another blank card and proceeds to write something down on it again. Once more, the spectator is asked to place their finger on one of the two remaining cards, whereby the magician turns his card over showing that he once again guessed correctly.

The effect can then be repeated.

Note: This is not an elimination process. The symbols the magician writes down will always be identical to the ones the spectator places his/her fingers on.

Polaroid:

An envelope is given to a spectator with the request that it never leaves their sight. The magician then removes five business cards, labelled 1-5, from his pocket and lays them face down on the table. The spectator is asked merely to place their finger on top of one of the facedown business cards. Their chosen card is turned over – a three – and the other cards are all shown to be different.

The performer then pulls out a handful of change (can be borrowed) and asks the spectator to choose either heads or tails. The spectator chooses 'heads' and the performer continues, stating that the spectator is going to make a blind choice. He/she is invited to drop the handful of coins onto the table repeatedly. When the coins fall, some land heads side up and some tails. Per turn, the coins that are tails-up are discarded and the dropping is repeated with the remaining heads-side-up coins until there is only one coin left, for example, the 10p.

Finally, a deck of cards is brought out, spread across the table and the spectator is instructed to freely select one (no force). Let's say, the 9 of Spades.

The magician recaps what has just happened. The spectator has freely chosen a number, a coin and a card, all through different means. The spectator is asked to remove the envelope from the beginning and, without the magician touching it, empty the contents onto the table. The spectator does so to find inside the envelope a Polaroid photograph showing a large number three, a 10p coin and the 9 of Spades.

"I have quickly read Bill's book COINsomnia (It is a quick read) and I was left with a feeling that some of you older magicians might just miss out on a very fresh book with nice twists to familiar plots. We older guys tend to keep with the things we use already.

I am happy to have read it. There are not many things that make me want to 'Bust out the coins' and start practicing. A couple of routines from this book did just that. Thanks Bill....I think.

Magicians...young or old, it is time to buy a new book!"
-Jim Pace

"Bill Citino is a rare breed. He is true student of magic who cares about paying homage to the great practitioners that came before us. He has taken the time to research the history behind the slights he uses and this dedication shows in his magic. Real world workable Coin Magic is rare these days and bill is offering you some real world stunners."
-Nathan Kranzo

"Bill's book COINsomnia is a breath of much needed fresh air. His work is so well thought out and every move planned that you would think a composer wrote them. I am so pleased by the reactions that I am getting after performing the magic in these pages!

If you want to fool the heck out of your audiences and you want some killer material to add to your arsenal, then you must pick up COINsomnia by Bill Citino!"
-Corey Burke

"'Kid tested, mother approved.' Magic that's guaranteed to blow any lay audience away!!! Great work Bill!"
-Eric Jones

Bill Abbott's "Professional Man of Mystery Collection" Presents...

Cocktail Card Magic

All around you are people that seem to know each other. They're laughing, engrossed in conversation, busy eating and drinking. You on the other hand are hired to 'entertain' these busy people with your magic, and at that precise moment you wish you could be anywhere else. One thing is keeping you from disappearing from the party.

You've been paid to be there.

Walk-around magic, strolling magic, roving magic, mingling sorcery, cocktail conjuring, etc. It has been given many names but it all boils down to the same thing, crashing people's otherwise meaningful conversations and consummation of expensive food and alcohol, with your magic.

Praise For Cocktail Card Magic...

"Bill Abbott's Cocktail Card Magic gets my highest recommendation. Bill's objective is to entertain his audiences, use methods that work under fire and he takes the responsibility of making magic fun very seriously. His advice about working walk-around gigs is advice I think everyone should read. It's worth much more than the price of the book. The routines are all top notch and it's easy to see that they have been polished over thousands of performances. The one issue I have with the book is that Bill decided to dedicate it to Bob Sheets and not me. If you can overlook that, buy this book."
- Bill Malone - CEO Of Comedy Magic

"I love this book. Bill has nailed the essence of that often awkward position we have to fill. His words of advice on how to handle yourself in that (sometimes) uncomfortable situation of cocktail magic, is worth the price of the book and the routines are inspired. I love it that Bill has figured out that the trick is not the thing... but that it is the 'ringmaster of fun' that is the real reason for us being there. I hope that this way of thinking inspires more of the workers out there to pack lots of visual and fun magic into a short window."
- Doc Eason - 2004 Bar Magician of the Year

"Bill Abbott has finally drawn important distinctions regarding performing in cocktail-party settings, doing it succinctly, concisely, and with clarity and good humor. The way this book looks and reads immediately draws you in and makes you care about the 'right stuff' for the "right people' in the 'right places.' Add "sharp focus" (your own), stir gently, and serve."
- Jon Racherbaumer - Author and Cocktail-Party Crasher

"Bill Abbott's "Cocktail Magic" is one of the finest values available today for the working, walk around performer. Bill's theory on performing in a cocktail environment is worth ten times the price of the booklet. I have been working cocktails for over 15 years and I still learned some very valuable information from Bill's book that I will apply directly to my craft. The effects in the manual are absolute killers. Each effect contains a script, funny lines, great bits of business and smart psychology. The effects are all instantly repeatable with little or no reset, which is of prime importance for the working pro. Bottom line, if you are at all interested in the field of Cocktail Magic, either as a beginner or as a seasoned pro...GET THIS BOOK!"
